About me...
My name is Kirstin Lee Goldie and I’m both the author and illustrator of the children’s book series ‘Tales of Huckleberry Hedge’. I live in a beautiful part of Scotland with my partner, Michael and our two dachshunds, Todd and Teddy, who I adore!

From a young age I have always loved art and illustration, creating short stories, poems, comic book strips, characters, rhymes and the list goes on… over the last few years it seems I have finally found the confidence to release my stories to the world and share all of the weird and wonderful ideas I’ve kept to myself for as long as I can remember. Something that means allot to me is mental health, I believe it is one of the most important things in life. I also believe that the way we think and deal with things in adult life stems from our childhood and the way we are taught to think when we are younger is what moulds us into the adults we are today. That is why I believe that teaching children about their feelings and emotions from a young age is so important for their mental health. I believe my books can help encourage children to have a more positive mindset in a gentle and adventurous way, my four main characters struggle with many problems throughout this series of books and each problem stems from how they think or feel, but together they learn how to encourage and listen to one another to help overcome those similar feelings we all have.
What inspired me...
My main inspiration behind these books was most definitely my late mum, from a very young age my mum would read endless amounts of books to me, she would write little rhymes and stories when I was growing up which encouraged me to write lots of poetry and stories throughout both primary and high school. I’ve always loved art and writing, but art always seemed to be something I was more confident with sharing, whereas writing was something I kept mainly between my mum and I. This is why it felt like such a scary jump full of mixed emotions as I began evolving from just an artist to an author too! My biggest goal would be that my books can bring children joy, inspiration and colour into their reading and their lives too, just like my mum gave me.
